Lola T70 - 2002

Having admired Lola T70 Sports cars for so long and used many parts from crashed ones in his build projects Mick got the chance to own a complete one in 2000. This was the last T70 chassis built and was used in the filming of the Steve McQueen film `Le Mans` in 1970. The car was damaged as a result of being one of the cars that crashes in the storyline.

For 2002 experienced Historic car racer Simon Hadfield was asked to race the car. Mick at 58 and now post-heart op said "Ive not raced for 20 years and I dont think i`ll race again". Mick did get the chance to enjoy a few laps of the car in a private session at Silverstone and im sure the sound of that growling V8 was a familliar one .

On the history of the car it was prehaps ironic or approprite that Mick having built hybrid cars with so many old Lola parts found himself owning the ultimate oddball T70 of them all. These T70s have become increasingly valuable and histories are well documented. However this particular one was such a mixture of mark3 and mark3b parts and a cloudy history that Lola expert John Starkey referred to it as his mystery car. A full article on the car was available on his website, which sadly seems to have gone off the internet like so many other good websites.

Mick enjoyed ownership of a car he had longed admired and later sold the car on via auction to a collector in Mexico.
